F.J. GenusBoard Chairman
F.J. has been working with TransWave Jamaica since its infancy, and has been instrumental in organizing a number of our earliest initiatives. He holds a B.Sc in Computer Science from the University of Technology - Jamaica, and also volunteers with the WomenWhoCode Kingston network. F.J. brings to the Board firsthand experience of navigating various facets of our society as a man of transgender experience, and his passion for advancing the rights of transgender Jamaicans.
Neish McLeanBoard Member
Neish McLean is a trans masculine activist with local, regional and international experience in trans advocacy. He is the Executive Director and Co-Founder of TransWave Jamaica, Vice-Chair of the United Caribbean Trans Network, the Regional Coordinator for the Caribbean for Transrespect versus Transphobia Worldwide (TvT). He is also a member of the the Grant Making Panel of the International Trans Fund and sits on the International Advisory Board of Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice. He holds a BSc. in Psychology which helps in his work as a human rights defender while using his lived reality as a trans person to inform his advocacy. Neish holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Sports Management.
Glenroy MurrayBoard Member
Glenroy Murray is a social justice and human rights advocate with specific focus on LGBT rights, women’s rights and youth development. He was formerly the Associate Director of Programmes & Advocacy at J-FLAG and has tutored Constitutional Law and Criminal Law I at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus. Through his advocacy work, he has sought to broaden the focus of policy and legal advocacy in the Jamaican LGBT movement. He is the conceptualiser and editor of the Gay Agenda which is a philosophical document which re-presents the Jamaican LGBT community, their desires and visions for the transformation of Jamaica. Glenroy is a Chevening Scholar who currently acts as an advisor to J-FLAG while he pursues a Master in Law, Development and Globalisation at the SOAS, University of London.
Dr. Sharlene JarrettBoard Member
Dr. Sharlene Jarrett is a Clinical Psychologist and the Director of Epidemiology and Strategic Information at the Jamaica Country Programs, University of California, San Francisco. She is actively engaged in designing and implementing national HIV related surveys and maintains a clinical practice where she provides individual, couple and family therapy. Dr. Jarrett’s research and clinical interests cover the intersection of mental illness, gender, class and HIV risk. She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst in 2003. Thereafter, she completed a post-doctoral fellowship in HIV clinical and behavioural research at Columbia University and New York State Psychiatric Institute and holds a M.Sc in Biostatistics from the Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University.
