Lamar-Shey Grant (they/she)

Lamar-Shey is a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Practitioner with several years of experience working at the intersection of advocacy, research, and community development to challenge systemic human rights violations. Their work focuses on marginalized and vulnerable populations, including at-risk youth, LGBTQ+ individuals, and particularly the trans and gender non-conforming community. Grounded in a strong commitment to social justice, they take a people-centered approach that amplifies voices often excluded from public discourse and decision-making.

Their expertise includes human rights monitoring and reporting, policy analysis, public advocacy, and strategic communication. Lamar-Shey’s work advances gender equality, LGBTQ+ rights, and social protection, with a focus on addressing structural and institutional barriers that perpetuate violence, stigma, and discrimination.

As Interim Executive Director at TransWave Jamaica, Lamar-Shey leads national advocacy efforts to confront the violence, exclusion, and systemic marginalization affecting trans and gender non-conforming people. They oversee the organization’s management and operations, ensuring it delivers on its mandate through strategic, community-driven advocacy. Their leadership includes coordinating national campaigns, producing evidence-based policy briefs, and guiding community-led research initiatives that inform policy and strengthen accountability.

Through their work, Lamar-Shey continues to influence policy reform, elevate community voices, and advance the dignity and rights of trans people across Jamaica and the wider Caribbean.
